Trip to Eastern Ohio

Photo: Lattice Pony 9/2007 rj

Todd Wilson, Janis Ford and I toured eastern Ohio after attending the re-dedication of the Zoarville (Fink) Bridge on Saturday. Look for updates to Tuscarawas, Harrison, Carroll and Jefferson Counties. The best find of the day was this "Lattice Pony" on a driveway in Jefferson County. It's just down the road from SFN 4133773 near Dillonvale. There are two other known bridges like this remaining in Ohio. There was a third in Wood County but it was recently destroyed! The owner said that the bridge has "always" been there but it's likely that it was moved from a public road many years ago. Note the addition of crude approaches and the warning sign.

SFN 4133773 was a good "find" too and is our current featured bridge! It's a Massilllon Lattice Bowstring, although the deck structure appears to have been modified with what look like railroad tracks the arch looks pretty original. This bridge is still in use on a gravel road and is posted at 10 tons.
