First Athens County Bridge is Confirmed

Photo: Don O'Brien, 8/2007

Don confirmed this unusual bridge in Athens County. OHBI lists it as a Post welded link and bolt pony! Don't know of any other example. There are i-beams under the deck but the rails appear to do some load bearing. There are diagonal tension rods (note tightening bolt) from the end posts to the lower chord. These are visible in full resolution (click picture). Design is similar to the Borneman truss. It has a build date of 1922, which is early for welding (may be modification or repair).
